About Us

Our sea salt is made from Central Bering Sea water, gathered and made by hand in small batches.

St. Paul Island is a remote island located in the Central Bering Sea. It is part of the Pribilof Islands, an archipelago of volcanic islands off the coast of Alaska. The islands are part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, is 42 square miles in size and is located 300 miles from the Alaska mainland, 300 miles north of the Aleutian Chain, and 800 miles from Anchorage. The island is inhabited by the Unangax, who have a strong connection to the land and sea, historically a seafaring people, surviving on the rich marine resources. Subsistence continues to be a cornerstone of Unangax culture and livelihood.   Harvesting salt from the sea has not been a traditional practice, it was something my husband I talked about doing when we were collecting local salts from our travels and this was an untapped market in our corner of the world.  Years later, the opportunity to launch this business began with a micro grant from Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (APICDA) called The Aleutian Marketplace. The microgrant is a partnership between APICDA, The Aleut Corporation, Wells Fargo and Fastwyre. The program works with community members, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and creative people throughout the Aleutian-Pribilof region to explore business concepts and talk about the nuts-and-bolts of entrepreneurship to help develop the regional economy.
